Greetings Pirates,
I wanted to take a moment to share an important announcement with you. During the December 2024 Board Meeting, I informed the Board of my decision to retire at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. My final day of service will be June 30, 2025, marking the conclusion of a 35½-year journey in education that began in December 1989.
Serving as Superintendent of Berea Community Schools has been an extraordinary privilege. This district is far more than just a place where learning happens—it is a family. The shared commitment of our educators, students, parents, and community members has made Berea Community Schools a shining example of excellence, innovation, and resilience.
Some of my fondest memories come from my time spent with students on the Superintendent Advisory Councils. Their ideas, perspectives, and enthusiasm have left an indelible mark on my heart and strengthened my resolve to always prioritize the needs of our students.
Beyond the district, I have been fortunate to represent Berea Community Schools on local, state, and national platforms, advocating for critical issues and collaborating with educational leaders across the country. These experiences have deepened my commitment to education and student success.
By announcing my retirement now, I aim to provide ample time for a smooth transition. I will work closely with the Board of Education to ensure the district is well-prepared for this change, including connecting them with organizations like KASA or KSBA who specialize in searches to help identify the best candidate to lead Berea Community Schools in the 2025-2026 school year, starting July 1, 2025.
As we embark on this final chapter together, I remain committed to finishing the 2024-2025 school year with passion and dedication to student success. Teamwork makes the dream work! Together, we will continue to "chart the course toward greatness, aiming high and daring to be great! Time flies, it seems like it was just yesterday when I signed my first contract in 2017.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Superintendent. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am proud to be part of the Pirate family and grateful for the relationships and memories that will forever enrich my life.
With gratitude and warm regards,
Dr. Diane Hatchett, Superintendent
Berea Community Schools
“Aim High and Dare to Be Great!”
